Here's a sneak preview of the book, while I'm down south for some R&R with the family. Today's excerpt is from a chapter early in the book, the catalyst that propels our hero into action and will set the goal for the rest of the story.
When Simon next woke up it was not morning but deep in midnight. Something or rather someone was pulling on his blankets. Simon shot up straight eliciting a screech at the end of the bed.
“Sesame!” Simon cried out and lunged for the monkey. Sesame nimbly avoided Simon’s grasp and jumped onto the windowsill. Simon saw he had taken his cell phone this time and was tapping it on the window.
“Why you…” Angered Simon got out of bed and stormed towards the window, sure that Sesame would once again jump to safety. He was so surprised however to feel his hands close around the tiny body that he let go immediately. Sesame kept banging his phone against the window. Now that Simon looked at the monkey he would have sworn Sesame looked afraid. He let his gaze drift passed the monkey to the window and then outside. The streetlights outside left little to the imagination. There was a bulky figure, dressed in what seemed all in black, moving away from the house. He seemed grotesquely disfigured with a large hump on his back. Peering closer, Simon saw that the hump was moving. He was carrying something or rather someone. Just then a second figure also dressed in black climbed out of the window below Simon’s bedroom!
“HEY!” Simon yelled. The figure looked up and Simon could see the man’s face clearly in the light coming from the street. He had a pale expressionless face and had what looked like a metal ear. The man looked confused as if not sure where the voice had come from , but rushed towards his companion who was waiting for him. Sally!! Wasting no more time Simon rushed to the door, almost tripping over Sesame, flew down the hallway and down the stairs and ran into Sally’s room. The bed was empty and the window was open and Simon could just make out the two figures disappearing down the road.
more tomorrow...
