Clash of the Titles

Today I slept in. Not the most noble of intentions for a guy looking for work in 2010, but there you have it. I'm still working off the chronic exhaustion of my five day trek down south and I felt this was the time to do it. After all, Alex is at school, Nancy is at work and with our vacation soon coming up there will be no rest for the parental units. But that's not to say I got nothing done.

The Writer in me: got a final say when I added all the thirty written chapters of Simon & Sally (and the Tree of Life) into one document. The word count came to a slightly higher estimate than earlier presumed, but now that everything is there I can start redrafting... when I go to America. For now the Muses will have to reduce their chatter to a murmur while I get the other facets of life in order. Such as...

The IT guy in me: who got to update his LinkedIn profile. It now reflects my most current work related activities up until (and including) the writing of the book. I figured: who knows, maybe there's an agent out there looking for a new property and Nancy's and my work may just be what they're looking for. Of course I realize that this is just a connection. I need to actively pursue projects and consultancy gigs out there if I want to get work. But I'm trying to get my portfolio up to date and my website refreshed in time for when I get back from vacation so I can more aggressively hunt for a job.

The Artist in me: will be examining a hush-hush project I have in the works. On a trip to Cambodia last year Nancy and I developed an idea to keep Alex busy while looking at centuries old ruins so we came up with something we think has huge potential on the travelers market. It is so good, I am actually afraid of mentioning anything here less someone runs off with the idea - but trust me - it's a hole in the market waiting to be filled.

The Nerd in me: plays a little World of Warcraft and watches Lost, Startgate Universe and whatever genre flicks I get to see in Bangkok's ultra modern movie theaters (where they serve popcorn and drinks at a reasonable price - not the inflated ones in the West). I mean hey, if you can't enjoy the downtime the universe presents you with every now and then, what point of living is there?

The Adventurer in me: is seriously taking a break from culture and nature. Malaysia did me in good (I know, I still owe you a recount) and Bangkok is once again gearing up for a Red shirt/Yellow shirt smack down so there really is no incentive to go exploring (sorry dad).

The You in Me: should really check out TED talks and this one in particular. Fascinating stuff (and it ties into Simon & Sally too).
